DIRECTORS NOTE

“What if a demon crept after you into your loneliest loneliness some day or night, and said to you: ‘This life, as you live it at present, and have lived it, you must live it once more, and also innumerable times; and there will be nothing new in it, but every pain and every joy and every thought and every sigh, and all the unspeakably small and great in thy life must come to you again, and all in the same series and sequence - and similarly this spider and this moonlight among the trees, and similarly this moment, and I myself. The eternal sand-glass of existence will ever be turned once more, and you with it, you speck of dust!’ … If that thought acquired power over you as you are, it would transform you, and perhaps crush you; the question with regard to all and everything: ‘Do you want this once more, and also for innumerable times?’ would lie as the heaviest burden upon your activity! Or, how would you have to become favourably inclined to yourself and to life, so as to long for nothing more ardently than for this last eternal sanctioning and sealing?” - Friedrich Nietzsche, The Gay Science, Aphorism #341

PRODUCERS NOTE

Hello and welcome to Knight Theatre’s production of Big Fish!

Big Fish has had a big place in my heart for years now. Peter Quince Performing Company in Manitowoc presented Big Fish in the summer of 2022. I designed props for that production with my best friend Abbey Barnett (who is in the pit playing guitar for today's show!). Since then, I have loved the story, the characters, and the music. My hope is that you leave today’s performance feeling the same. Throughout the process of bringing this story to life on the Webb stage, I have felt more gratitude than I could ever possibly express, but I will try.

To our stage director, Tyler Blom: I am grateful for your steady calmness and your brilliant artistic vision. To our vocal director, Simon Whiteley: I am grateful for your natural teaching talent and your endless enthusiasm. To our pit director, Tyler Newsom: I am grateful for how expertly you lead our musicians and your commitment to excellence. To our stage manager, Kaliyah Garania: I am grateful for your perpetual focus and your constant positivity. To our advisor, Molly Lucareli, and my professors April Beiswenger and Stephen Rupsch: I am eternally grateful for your mentorship and encouragement.

To my parents, Tom and Beth Czekala: Thank you for always supporting me in my theatre ambitions and in everything else. You are the best parents a college kid could ask for.

To everyone involved in this production: I am beyond thankful for your friendship, talent, and dedication. Producing Big Fish is one of my favorite adventures I have taken so far, and as Edward Bloom would say, “the best part of an adventure is the people you meet.”

ADVISOR NOTE

Hello and welcome to Big Fish! As the new faculty advisor for Knight Theatre, I wanted to personally thank you for being in attendance today. In a time when the world can feel especially hard, the arts always find a way to comfort us, to connect us, and to remind us of our shared humanity. What you see on stage is a reflection of bright, creative, and hardworking students coming together to make something truly beautiful.

Knight Theatre has been a part of the St. Norbert College community since 1994. From the beginning, this organization has been powered entirely by student passion and commitment with students running, creating, and performing at the very heart of its mission. Knight Theatre receives no operating budget and fundraises every dollar needed to bring these productions to life. What you see on stage tonight is the result of creativity, collaboration, and countless hours of dedication.

Knight Theatre also plays a deeply personal role in my life. My siblings and I were asked to be a part Little Shop of Horrors in 1996, when I was in kindergarten, as Audrey and Seymour’s children in a dream sequence. Years later, as an undergraduate, I participated in Knight Theatre all four years and in every capacity imaginable, including actor, costume designer, and choreographer, sometimes all in the same show. Through these experiences, Knight Theatre gave me real-life skills, confidence, and lifelong friendships that continue to shape who I am today.

Thank you for being here and for supporting the arts.Your presence tonight matters. If you are able and would like to support Knight Theatre’s continued efforts, please consider donating by visiting the website provided. Your support helps ensure that student voices, stories, and creativity will continue to thrive on this stage for years to come.

Enjoy the show,

Molly Maher Lucareli (Class of 2012)
